For the month of July I had the lovely and talented Hannah Kong complete an internship with me. She was a wonderful asset and I know will make a wonderful wedding planner. She kindly created the following mood board for me, hope you like it!

Real Wedding: Tess & Gary

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

On the 10th July I organised the wonderful wedding of Tess & Gary whom I had been working with for 18 months. As always there were so many gorgeous photos sent to me by Mydas Photography so I have decided to split the highlights into 2.

I love this shot up high showing the congregation and the bespoke aisle runner from Wedding Runner.

We hired the talented singers from tenors unlimited, this was a surprise act from Tess to Gary, they were wonderful.

The flowers on the day were stunning and so refreshing to have a colour other then pink, the talented duo from By Appointment Only Design created amazing displays, more evidence will be apparent when I upload part 2 of the wedding .

First Impressions always count

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

As a wedding planner I get inundated with samples and email from suppliers, so for me first impressions really count especially if someone wants me to consider them as a recommended supplier when its peak summer season! Recently I was sent a sample from Hummingbird Card Company and they instantly stood out, why? Goes back to first impression. Theirletter and price list was printed on a heavy GSM paper, instantly saying ‘quality’ to me. The invitation envelope was tied with pretty ribbon AND was personalised with my name, when I opened the envelope a pretty butterfly was greeting me with turquoise underlay/insert.  I loved it so much I am adding them to my list and will be asking to see more work!

Art Deco Glamour

Monday, May 24th, 2010

You may remember I recently advertised for some interns to work with me during the summer, one of those chosen was Heather Cole who will soon be launching her company EvelynCole. She has been an enormous help so far, this is her last week with us so I thought we would bid her goodbye with a mood board she has designed.

Theme: 1920’s / 1930’s

Mood: Glamour / Art Deco

Colour: Cream/Ivory with an accent of black

The inspiration for this board is the glamour of the 1920’s and 1930’s. Although the fashion of the time was about simplicity, the 1920’s was all about luxury! Geometric shapes and lines were popular and stationery such as this found on bellafigura would set the theme for your wedding day!

Wedding Attire

For your bridal gown a stunning crossover dress worn over a silk camisole such as this one from couture designer Lindsay Fleming as seen on Rock ‘n’ Roll Bride shouts glamour without being OTT. To complement this team this with an elegant bridal bouquet of white / cream calla lilies, finished with vintage lace ribbon and an art deco brooch scoured from a local antique fair or a family heirloom.

For your bridesmaids these dresses from Monsoon as seen here with a black skirt add some contrast to the colour theme. Rather than opt for bouquets why not have your bridesmaids hold functional but pretty flapper ivory handbags as seen here, wear embellished pearl jewellery such as the bracelet seen here, and have their hair finished off with a pearl or antique art deco hair comb.

For the bridegroom, best men and ushers a tuxedo as seen here was essential attire for the 1920’s gentleman, partner this with a simple Calla Lilie boutonnière.

Transport

This 1930’s vintage convertible car as seen here would be perfect for a glamorous and memorable arrival to your ceremony and reception.

Reception

Greet your guests after the ceremony with a champagne punch and martini drinks reception. Why not have the drinks served in classic glass saucers and martini glasses and to create an atmosphere hire in a jazz saxophonist.

For the wedding breakfast a stunning hotel or stately home ballroom adorned with crystal chandeliers such as this one here would be the perfect setting. The key is to keep the table décor simple, rectangle tables rather than round keeping in tune with the geometric theme, with perhaps one tall floral centrepiece dominating the table and a hint of glamour bought to the table by these gold beaded charger plates. A square fondant iced cake decorated with art deco sugar plaques as seen here would be the perfect focal point.

Guest favours such as these hip flasks would be perfect for male guests, and for the ladies vintage art deco brooches from your local antique fairs and centres.

To liven the party up for the evening why not transform a ballroom into a jazz club. Position small round tables lit by LED table lamps around the dance floor, hire in a jazz band to play modern and classic tunes and have waitresses present ice cream cones and bowl food to guests from cinema / usherette trays.

Marquee top tips - design

Are you one of the fortunate people to have an event at home or at least in the grounds of someone that cares about you? Congratulations on having the opportunity to create an event truly personal and individual. But has the initial excitement now paved way for disorder and distress? If so you’re not alone, home weddings are DIFFICULT. It’s a much greater challenge than a hotel or venue because you have to organise everything from scratch, with no professional to guide you along the way. Over the last 7 years I have organised many home events and have become known as an expert amongst planners and clients alike. Personally I love them, yes its hard work but the results are worth it.

marquee-exterior

  • Be imaginative with the design, if your theme is butterflies then why not have a butterfly lining? Try crescent moon for custom made linings.
  • Think about the carpet colour and seat pads carefully, they should match your wedding theme and colours, not clash, if in doubt go neutral.
  • Lighting is key for weddings now so ask your marquee company about up-lighters or spot lights on tables from above, this creates a very powerful effect. Candelabras look amazing when night begins to fall. In the garden place garden lanterns on trees and in flower beds to make a feature of them, if the weather is nice hopefully guests will be spending time outside.
  • Arrange the layout so minimal disruption is causes when moving furniture. Trying to remove a long top table form the dance floor when evening guests have arrives is not much fun. I advise avoiding having tables on the dance floor unless absolutely necessary.
  • Speak with your florist about creating a high impact display, small low arrangements just get lost in the ceiling height. A combination of high/low arrangements works best
  • Ask to see the marquee chairs before agreeing to hire them, some hire chairs should have been taken out of service years ago. Ask for spares so you can only place out the good ones, have someone on site to take delivery of the chairs and quality check them.
  • If there is one thing that can break a theme it is rough and starched linen. Speak with your planner or caterer about hiring in some designer linen, there is a range of colours and styles you can get. Ensure the cloths are to the floor and make a feature from the napkins; no I’m not talking dancing swans! You can fold the napkins so they have a pocket in which favours or a rose can be placed or if you are very creative fold it so it resembles a tie.
  • For a dramatic feature hire some topiary trees , statues or beautiful bird cages overflowing with flowers  . Place them behind the top table and flagging the entrance
  • Try raising the dance floor and have steps leading up to it. Line alternative pots of flowers with up-lighters to light the dance floor from below.
  • Many people now have big displays on the marquee poles (if traditional marquee) but why not ask your florists to create a palm tree or willow tree with twigs and blooms? In other words if you don’t have a tree as a feature within the marquee, make one instead!
  • Ask the marquee company to separate the band/DJ area with a curtain then can be easily draped to one side. There is nothing worse then seeing a brides hard work spoilt by obtrusive speakers and drum sets behind the top table.

Scented Candles

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I use candles at most of my weddings and like to use scented ones in lounge areas so i was intrigued when contacted by Alesia from Alesia Barry Candles. They specialise in two main product types - scented container candles for wedding tables and favours and pillar candles for wedding centrepieces.  The container candles are all subtly fragranced and the pillar candles are tastefully decorated using Swarovski Crystal Elements. The candles are then finished off with a choice of ribbon which can be tailored to match the chosen wedding theme colour.

scented-wedding-reception-candles

They use up to 7% of fragrance in the candles and are delicately scented so as not to be too over powering at a venue. As a lover of scented candles I was sent their English Rose candle to see for myself if it burnt evenly and released the fragrance sufficiently. I can honestly say I was very impressed with the clean design of the candle but also the pretty fragrance it released.

Do pop along to her website, is there a fragrance that will suit your wedding?

How cute?!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Recently when reading the blog from Love My Dress I was delighted to read an article on My Vintage Party who hire vintage crockery etc for events. It would seem they have added to their portfolio with something a little larger.

vintage-caravan-1

They now have Lola, a gorgeous 1960s renovated vintage caravan, available to hire from £49.  At only 8ft long she is tiny but oh so cute! She has been professionally re-sprayed in a gorgeous sage green and off white to complement the vintage style interior, an abundance of polka dots and Cath Kidston. She can seat up to four at her table, which can be removed.

Not sure all my family would fit in there but seriously this would be perfect when organising vintage tea parties, I can just see it now next to my marquee functions sitting in the field.
