Top Tips: Marquee Events

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Are you one of the fortunate people to have an event at home or at least in the grounds of someone that cares about you? If so this new series is for you. Over the last 7 years I have organised many marquee events and have become known as an expert amongst planners and clients alike. Personally I love them, yes its HARD work but the results are worth it. So every Monday I will be passing on some of my top tips.

PLANNER - seriously think about having a planner to assist with the planning or at least project manage the wedding day for you. Venues have banqueting managers to deal with problems but you will have no-one. A planner can decorate the venue, take delivery of goods plus manage the day itself so if any challenges occur they are dealt with in a professional manner leaving you to relax and party. I cover the East Anglia region but for reputable planners in your area view the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners.

Protect your feet!

I was recently contacted by Weddington Boots regarding their yes, ivory wellies for use at weddings. I thought they were great and useful for my brides having marquees in the countryside - JUST IN CASE.

SECURITY - Is there a room in the house that can be locked? If so use this for valuables and wedding presents, give the key to your planner or bridesmaid. If the marquee will be unattended before the wedding, for example if it is on premises no-one lives at then seriously consider hiring a security guard, this is not the time for all your hard work to be spoilt by a local thief. If you need help with your marquee event then visit our website for details on the services we offer.

How cute?!

Recently when reading the blog from Love My Dress I was delighted to read an article on My Vintage Party who hire vintage crockery etc for events. It would seem they have added to their portfolio with something a little larger.

vintage-caravan-1They now have Lola, a gorgeous 1960s renovated vintage caravan, available to hire from £49. At only 8ft long she is tiny but oh so cute! She has been professionally re-sprayed in a gorgeous sage green and off white to complement the vintage style interior, an abundance of polka dots and Cath Kidston. She can seat up to four at her table, which can be removed.

Not sure all my family would fit in there but seriously this would be perfect when organising vintage tea parties, I can just see it now next to my marquee functions sitting in the field.

CLEANING - A practical tip I have is to make up a cleaning basket ready for spills or messes. Give to your wedding planner or caterer so they are prepared for any accidents that occur. Think about having some cleaners the morning after to assist with the inevitable mess.If you need help with your marquee event then visit our website for details on the services we offer.

Give a heart to show you care

Friday, March 5th, 2010

With Mothers day fast approaching us I’m sure many of you are thinking about what to buy. Rather then going down the traditional route of flowers or plants why not give her a ‘heart’ ? I especially love the ones from Decorative Country Living . Of course if you dont want to give the heart away, you can use at your wedding on the backs of chairs or to display old photographs. My favourite is the heart noticeboard, I wonder if my family are taking note? hmmm….

Wedding Planning Excellence

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Last weekend I attended the annual ‘Wedding Planning Excellence’ seminar held at the beautiful Fawsley Hall in Northamptonshire. Held over 2 days there were a range of speakers from business coaches to florists. I came away very inspired not to mention I was able to network with my wonderful colleagues at the UKAWP. I’m already looking forward to next years seminar!

PARKING - Do you have sufficient parking? If parking is in a nearby field then provide a solid walkway for guests in case it is raining, walking across a sodden field in heels is not much fun. Ensure there is good signage so people know where to park. And don’t forget lighting, people need to ‘find’ the car park at night! If you do not have the parking on site then is there a nearby public car park guests can use?signsIf you need help with your marquee event then visit our website for details on the services we offer. You can also hire the above signs from Dream Occasions Hire.
