Creative Photography Workshop

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending a photography workshop organised by the UKAWP with the fabulous Emily Quinton. The wedding industry has changed rapidly since I launched in 2002 with the biggest change being social media and the way we use this to promote our brand. Today’s couples are incredibly visual, they don’t want to necessarily hear about how creative you are, they want to experience it.

Bernadette ChapmanI’m pretty active on all social media platforms out there but there was one area I felt frustrated with, namely instagram, in short my photography skills were letting me and my brand down. The other difficulty is to date I’ve never taken pictures at a clients event and uploaded them onto social media on the day, I’ve kept design elements private until the professional images have been released. Thus my instagram feed to date has mainly been pictures with people, family and industry professionals.

But times are changing and as I feel passionate about increasing my knowledge as often as possible, I decided it was time to refine my photography skills primarily for my instagram account. During this workshop Emily talked to us about devising a style for our social media and how to edit pictures so it reflects that style. I learnt so much about using my camera phone, but also about instagram itself. I hope that when viewing my account it is more visually pleasing than before!

Below is just one example of how I improved one image I took.
