Tips for a winter wedding

As we head into Autumn there may be some of you preparing the final details for your winter weddings, or perhaps you’re planning a 2017 winter wedding?  There’s something about winter that screams romance. Cuddling in front of roaring fires and twinkly lights. You can see one of my previous winter weddings here.

Your Decor

If you’re marrying in December, then a Christmas theme might be the obvious choice for design. But how about a winter wonderland? Crystals and snowflakes or combining colour palettes like aqua, silver or purple with snow white?

Use candles and lighting as much as you can to create a beautiful ambience. Try candles lining the stairs and hallways, candelabras on the table and festoon lighting in the courtyard. The options are endless and unlike summer where lighting is only effective for a few hours, your lighting will be appreciated for the majority of the day and night.

Photography

Think about what limited daylight hours there are in the winter months and choose your ceremony time accordingly. Ideally, you want to get as many photos in the natural light as you can. Ensure you have a way to keep warm in between photos whether a warm drink, shawl or faux fur jacket.

Your Guests

The drink reception will invariably be inside so ensure you have a venue with enough space for everyone to mingle comfortably. Think about your guests from the moment they arrive until they depart. How will they get from the car to the venue, will any paths be de-iced for example? Consider hiring in some umbrellas if rain is predicted. Ensure there is a cloakroom and somewhere they can hang their coats. And don’t forget to keep guests warm, ensure the venue is well heated, consider serving hot drinks alongside champagne and keep those fires roaring.

Food and Drink

To keep things elegant, create fabulous cocktails with seasonal fruits and spices, or serve hot drinks like mulled wine and hot chocolate to warm everyone up. Instead of a dessert table think about a hot chocolate station with toppings and syrups, some fabulous recipes available on the PNP Flowers blog and she has printables available from her Etsy shop.
