Wedding at Spains Hall

In July last year I had the pleasure of organising the wedding for Claire and Rob.
She had already booked the venue
for the ceremony but wished to have a marquee reception back at her parents home. From our first meeting I knew we’d get on fabulously well from the country setting, to multiple dogs, it was a match made in heaven.

The Brief

Claires vision for the day was of a relaxed but elegant, magical, romantic wedding with lots of fairy lights, beautiful flowers and candles. Claire is an interior designer so knew what overall feel she wanted for the day. My role was to undertake all the planning, budget control and fine tune the design. Oh and rein in Claire over pinterest 😉

The Dress + Accessories…..

The dress, shoes and veil were all bought from Mia Sposa in Cambridge. For the ‘something new’ Claires mum bought her a diamond and pearl bracelet, for the ‘something old’ she wore her Granny’s antique diamond boat ring, for the ‘something borrowed’ she wore her mums diamond earrings and for the ‘something blue’ fortunately on the bottom of her shoes there was a little blue glass stud!!

The Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony had been booked for the magnificent Elizabethan Hall within a gorgeous *venue in Essex. I have organised a wedding at this venue before and I simply adore the family antiques, paintings and attributes that make this such a personal, friendly *venue.

Drink Reception not once but twice!

For Claire and Rob we decided 1 drink reception was not enough so we did it twice! Following the ceremony guests made their way outside for canapés , pimms and champagne. Whilst photos were being taken by the lovely Ben, the talented Charles Burns was producing silhouettes of the guests. Unbeknown to guests the lovely Lisa cleared all the flowers and décor and drove to the marquee site where I was busy with final details.

When guests arrived at the marquee site they were greeted with Bellinis and Savoury ‘cake pop’ – (goats cheese rolled in mixed seeds), Cheese beniets and Garlic prawns on rosemary skewers.

The Design

The main details were the flowers, we had an abundance of them and tables were even named after them. Lighting and candles were also an important detail, to make the marquee come to life at night. Instead of a guest book we had little coloured wooden hearts that guests signed and guests put wedding cards into a wooden crate.

But there was a secret little design many guests wont have noticed and that was within the stationery. The invitation design was in a very natural card stock and featured a beautiful tree with lanterns, sign posts and birds flying. Elements of this was continued through the stationery on the day but if you look closely, there is something a little different each time. And if you look very closely you might spot Claires dog “Winnie”!  Many of my clients adore dogs and I love thinking of ways to incorporate this into their wedding, subtly.

We really wanted the marquee to feel like a beautiful English garden and thus filled it with flowers, high and low. We also hired in some beautiful silver birch trees which were placed behind the top table. Wedding Creative created a lace and pearl backdrop and Traditional Flower Company threaded small origami birds to it. The combination of the lace + origami birds + trees was simply beautiful and especially at night looks very magical.

A beautiful 3 tier cake from Abigail Bloom Cake Company was displayed on a table in the middle of the dancefloor with lace as an overlay. Oh and we mustn’t forget the cookies, Claire loves cookies so Square 1 made some which we had in cookie jars in the evening!
